The Parsons Public Library will have a free pumpkin decorating (they will pick out their own real pumpkin) and guided pumpkin painting activity (on canvas) TODAY at 3:30. If you live in Decatur County there is no library card charge. It is free!! They also have Accelerated Reading (AR) labeled books that your child can AR test on.
*The AR website will be open until 7:30 pm at night if you are interested in reading your child a book or having them read it on their own at home and checking the website to see if the book you’ve read has an AR test. Students are rewarded by our staff for taking AR tests and earning AR points! READ, READ, READ!!!!

Wednesday: students dress up as teachers/staff
Thursday: wear boots
Friday: Historical Hero dress-up and share research OR dress in orange and black
Historical Hero Guideline: Your child will receive a template from the school to identify a hero of their choice that has made a positive impact in some way. They will research and write about their hero using this template provided. They can dress up as that hero and share with their class and/or grade what they found out about them through their research.

We hope everyone enjoyed a restful and fun-filled fall break! This is a reminder that Decatur County Schools will resume classes tomorrow, Monday, October 13, 2025.

We also want to address the recent school threat that has been circulating in our county. At this time, the individual responsible is in custody. While there are no new updates to share, please be assured that the safety of our students and staff remains our school system’s top priority.

We are working closely with our School Resource Officers (SROs), Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Parsons Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Homeland Security to maintain a secure environment across all campuses. We remain committed to transparency and will continue to provide updates should any new information related to school safety arise.

The Decatur County School System was recently made aware of a potential threat involving one of our schools. I want to personally assure you that we take all threats seriously and are fully committed to ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and campuses.

At this time, our knowledge and information regarding the situation is limited. However, we can confirm that the individual responsible for making the threat is currently in custody. We are continuing to work closely with law enforcement to monitor and assess the situation.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to local law enforcement agencies for their swift response. Their prompt action was instrumental in addressing the situation quickly.
