Mrs. Tubbs has been part of the DES family for 12 years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education PreK–6 from UT Martin. Over the course of her career, she has served as a reading specialist and taught first, second, and third grades.
.
Her top priority as she steps into this new leadership role is to help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where every student feels motivated, supported, and driven to do their best. She also wants to be a strong support system for Mrs. Christee Pettigrew, the teachers, and staff by providing resources, addressing challenges, and supporting day-to-day needs, so that teachers can focus on what they do best.

Mrs. Tubbs shared, “I’m excited to interact with all students in the building and see their progress and growth. This gives me the chance to be involved in students’ lives no matter what grade they are in and to watch them grow throughout their years at DES.” She is also looking forward to collaborating closely with DES’s dedicated teachers and building strong relationships with students as they thrive both academically and personally.
.
She credits her inspiration to pursue educational leadership to the guidance of Mrs. Melinda Thompson and Mrs. Christee Pettigrew, who have always encouraged and supported her in her teaching journey. Brittany is grateful for the opportunity to serve at the school she once attended as a child and to work alongside the people she considers family.
.
Outside of school, she enjoys reading books and spending time with her family. Brittany and her husband, Josh, have been married for 12 years and have three children—Kennedy, Lawson, and Emersyn.

Decatur County Schools is proud to announce Mrs. Christee Pettigrew as the new Principal of Decaturville Elementary School for the upcoming school year!
.
Mrs. Pettigrew brings 28 years of experience in education, all of them dedicated to serving the students of Decatur County. She holds Masters of Education degrees in Curriculum Instruction and Instructional Leadership and has taught multiple grade levels from Pre-K through 5th grade.
.
Over the past decade, she has also served as an RTI and Testing Coordinator and, most recently, as Assistant Principal at DES for the past three years. Through each role, she has continued to learn, grow, and lead with compassion and purpose.
.
When asked about her goals in this new role, Mrs. Pettigrew shared: “I would love to continue to support our students and teachers as we strive for academic success. My goals include building foundational skills in reading, writing, and math that also instill a love of learning. A strong focus on academic excellence is a key driver in a positive culture and climate. When there is an emphasis on strong instruction and student learning, the climate and culture of the school are strong as well.”
.
Mrs. Pettigrew is especially excited about the opportunities ahead: “I am excited about the prospect of being impactful in an entire school community. I am really looking forward to working as a team with Ms. Brittany to make this school year a great year filled with wonderful learning opportunities for our students. Additionally, I am excited about working with our new leadership team under Ms. Melinda. I am so happy to be a part of this team and the vision that she is striving to achieve in Decatur County.”
As the school year begins, she looks forward to seeing the students and introducing new student-focused learning initiatives to foster ownership and engagement.
.
Mrs. Pettigrew and her husband, Josh, have two grown children—Brooke, a dedicated special education teacher in Lexington, and Hayden, who works for Mutual of Omaha in Memphis. Outside of school, Mrs. Pettigrew loves spending time at the river—her “happy place”—boating, fishing, and enjoying time with family and friends. She’s also known for her love of animals, especially dogs.
.
She shared that her inspiration for educational leadership comes from many years of working alongside Ms. Melinda Thompson: “Ms. Melinda has always supported me in my growth as an educational leader. I’ve learned so much from her over the past ten years. One thing she has taught me is to always ask yourself, ‘What is best for the students?’ All decisions should reflect back to this core question. Some decisions will be hard and difficult, but a good leader will make those decisions for the students.”
.
Decatur County Director of Schools, Mrs. Melinda Thompson, shared: “I’ve worked with Mrs. Christee for a number of years and have no doubts about her abilities to lead Decaturville Elementary. She expresses humility, leadership, patience, and kindness in everything she does. I am very excited and confident about the future of DES under her guidance.”
.
Mrs. Pettigrew closed by saying: “I believe this is going to be a great school year. I look forward to seeing our students and to fostering a loving, safe, and supportive school environment that will be conducive to creating lifelong learners who can pursue their own personal dreams and aspirations. I think God puts people in the right places at the perfect timing, and I believe He is with our team as we move forward for DC students.”

🌟📚 Celebrating Young Readers! 📚🌟
.
Meet Addison, a 4th grader who has worked incredibly hard over the past three weeks to build her reading skills. Through her determination and practice, she gained confidence and read aloud to some of the younger groups.
The students loved her enthusiasm, and Addison made the story come alive by interacting with them throughout her reading!
To recognize her effort, we presented her with a certificate welcoming her as an official member of the Young Reader Leaders Club. As a special reward for her hard work, Dr. Anglin stopped by to present Addison with a Chelsea Barbie and an accessory pack, generously donated by Save the Children's Decatur Co. Gift in Kind program.
.
Summer Learning Camp was a huge success this year, with many inspiring success stories just like Addison’s. We are so proud of all our students for their hard work, growth, and commitment to learning!
.
Way to go, Addison! Your dedication and love for reading inspire us all. We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next! 💛📖
