DES is very excited to welcome Ms. Michelle Lamson to our family! Ms. Michelle and her family moved from Illinois to Parsons last summer to be closer to family. She has 30 plus years of teaching experience that includes Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 5th grade; plus, she has worked as a Reading Specialist. Ms. Michelle holds a degree in Elementary Education and a Master's in Reading and Literacy. Also, she has a son that will be a senior at Riverside this year, and she says she is very excited to be a part of the DES Team!!

DES is excited to announce that Katie Flemming is joining our family as our new Speech Language Pathologist!! Ms. Katie obtained her bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University and master's degree from Murray State University in Speech Language Pathology. She has two children, Madalyn and Elliot. She enjoys spending time with her family, loving on her two dogs, and all things outdoors. Ms. Katie went to DES herself in K through 4th grade! She is passionate about helping kiddos improve their communication skills and find their voices. Ms. Katie says she is excited to be back in Decatur County and to join the DES Family!

Open house at both Parsons and Decaturville Elementary schools will be held during registration on the morning of August 1st from 7:30-9:30am. At this time, families can drop off school supplies, meet the teacher, and tour the classrooms.

DES is very excited to welcome Ms. Brande Smith to our team as our new 4th Grade Math Teacher!
Ms. Brande has been teaching 5th and 6th grade math for 9 years, 7 years at DCMS and 2 years at LCMS. She is married to Hugh Smith, and they have two children, Madeline Moss and Hueston Smith. Ms. Brande enjoys kayaking, reading, hiking, and spending time with her family. She also loves Star Wars movies and collecting Hot Wheels/ Matchbox Volkswagen vehicles. She is passionate about teaching math and helping students reach their full learning potential. Ms. Brande says she is so excited to begin this new chapter at DES, and she is looking to being a part of the DES Family!

There will be a special called board meeting on Tuesday, July 25th at 6pm with a board work session at 5pm in the board room at the board of education.
Freshman orientation will be held at Riverside High School on August 1st at 7:00 pm. All new students and Freshman are encouraged to attend!

The Decatur County School System is seeking applications for a Pre-ETS Transition Case Manager for Grades 9-12. Applicants must have a degree in Education, Counseling, or Social Work and have experience working with students with disabilities. This is a grant funded position for the 2023-2024 school year.
