Way to go! A huge shout-out to our students who reached their AR goals while we were out. Stay tuned....we’ll be announcing even more students who met their goal tomorrow! Don't forget, you can continue to test at home! • Pro Tip: If you’re visiting the Parsons Public Library, look for the AR labels on their books so you know exactly which books you can AR test on before you check them out! Due to having a full instructional week February 9th-13th we will be having our Valentine's Day parties on FRIDAY now! Please let your child's teacher know if you plan on attending so we can get your tag printed in advance! Thank you!

NOTICE: Feb. 9 - 13 will be a full week for students.

Decatur County Schools will be in session on Monday, February 9, 2026. A regular schedule will be followed; however, bus drivers will use their discretion to determine which roads are safe to travel. Students will be excused if transportation is unavailable or if other weather-related conditions prevent attendance. Parents should communicate any attendance concerns directly with their school’s administration.

Additionally, the Decatur County School Calendar is being amended to designate Thursday, February 12, 2026, and Friday, February 13, 2026, as regular instructional days. It is understandable and greatly appreciated that parents often use the school calendar to schedule vacations, appointments, and other events. Each school principal will work with parents who may have already made prior commitments for February 12th and/or 13th. The goal is to provide our students with effective instruction that prepares them to meet grade-level expectations and transition to the next level of learning. Unexpected events like winter storms make achieving this goal more difficult due to two weeks of lost instructional time. Restructuring our calendar is one option to regain instructional time and better serve our students.

*Parent-Teacher Conference will be rescheduled for a later date.

We appreciate your support, understanding, and flexibility.

Stay safe, stay warm, and keep those pages turning! Our teachers have set exciting new class goals and are challenging students to AR test at home while we are out of school! ❄️

What should you do if you get snowed in? Snuggle up with a good book and let those AR points pile up like the snow outside! ❄️We are encouraging our students to read and AR test at home. We have sent these home with each student to make testing at home even easier! Please let your child's teacher know if you have any questions! 📚

The Decatur County School System was notified by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office that criminal charges have been filed against a district employee. The employee has been placed on immediate administrative leave and is prohibited from all campuses and from any contact with students or staff. The employee will remain on leave while law enforcement proceeds with its investigation.

.
The district is fully cooperating with the Sheriff’s Office and conducting its own review in accordance with state law and district policy. Because this is an active criminal matter and due to confidentiality laws, we are unable to share additional details at this time. Questions regarding the criminal case should be directed to the District Attorney’s Office.

.
Our primary focus remains the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and school community. **Additional support will be available across all campuses, with additional counseling resources on-site at Decaturville Elementary School and Riverside High School for any students or staff who may need assistance during this time.

.
We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation as we work to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all.
