School Hoax Threat
On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 2:55 p.m., Decatur County Schools received a report of an alleged Snapchat post concerning a planned school shooting involving grades 6-8.
School Administration, School Resource Officers, and the Decatur County Sheriff's Office immediately began investigating and contacted the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security. After further investigation, it was determined by 3:45 p.m. that the Snapchat message concerned Buckeye Local School in Ohio, grades 6-8.
DCSO investigated and found no information related to Decatur County Schools. As a precaution, additional law enforcement will be present at all Decatur County Schools on Thursday, September 12.
Decatur County Schools would like to thank the Decatur County Sheriff's Office for their swift response to this issue. We would also like to remind all students, parents, and the community to report any information regarding a potential school threat immediately to the Decatur County Sheriff's Office and the School Administration.
Thank you for your understanding as we all work to create a safe learning environment for our students.
