EVERYONE, PLEASE PARTICIPATE!
As a part of federal accountability within our school system, we must assess parent attitudes/perceptions about the educational program and facilities available in the Decatur County School System.
Please take a few minutes to complete the annual school system survey for each of your children:

Please take time to fill out the brief survey. This is so that federal programs can compile accurate data to address the system needs of schools.
Please fill one out per child.

REMINDER:

In May of this year, the Decatur County School System recognized the need to offer a virtual school in our district. In August, the Decatur County Virtual Academy opened its doors to students. Beginning with 27 students in August, the Academy currently has 67 full-time students. With this additional school, Decatur County Schools continuously works to meet students' needs.
To close out the first semester, tonight we celebrated three students who graduated from high school in December. While they will receive their official diplomas in May, we did not want to wait to share in this tremendous accomplishment. Graduating tonight are Cholena Miller, Cole Miller, and Shannon Wood. These three students completed every course required to graduate. We are very proud of them and wish them good luck in their future endeavors.
Thank you to Director of Schools Chris Villaflor, DCVA principal Mark Mathis, and guest speaker Dr. Tammie Todd Patterson for sharing with our students tonight. A thank you also to Bear Creek Baptist Church for allowing us to use its facilities to celebrate the accomplishments of these fine young men and women.
Congratulations to the 1st DCVA graduating class.

School Hoax Threat
On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 2:55 p.m., Decatur County Schools received a report of an alleged Snapchat post concerning a planned school shooting involving grades 6-8.
School Administration, School Resource Officers, and the Decatur County Sheriff's Office immediately began investigating and contacted the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security. After further investigation, it was determined by 3:45 p.m. that the Snapchat message concerned Buckeye Local School in Ohio, grades 6-8.
DCSO investigated and found no information related to Decatur County Schools. As a precaution, additional law enforcement will be present at all Decatur County Schools on Thursday, September 12.
Decatur County Schools would like to thank the Decatur County Sheriff's Office for their swift response to this issue. We would also like to remind all students, parents, and the community to report any information regarding a potential school threat immediately to the Decatur County Sheriff's Office and the School Administration.
Thank you for your understanding as we all work to create a safe learning environment for our students.

Good evening. Decatur County Schools would like to encourage all students to turn in their doctor and parent notes on time. Please see the Attendance FAQ page as a refresher. Please feel free to reach out to dcattendance@decaturschools.org if you have any questions.
