🎓 Congratulations, DCVA Graduates! 🎓

On December 15th, seven outstanding students proudly walked across the stage to receive their diplomas from the Decatur County Virtual Academy. These graduates completed their academic requirements in December and are now stepping confidently into their following chapters.

Students from this cohort will move on to TCAT, Tennessee Tech, Jackson State, and one graduate will begin an apprenticeship working with transformers—proof that success looks different for every student.

During the ceremony, Mr. Jay Cox shared his personal journey and closed his remarks with a powerful reading of “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, reminding students that their paths are uniquely their own.

🎓 Graduates include:
- Braydon Bunn
- Kody Coleman
- Dustin Ervin
- Taylor Hickerson
- Brooklyn Ivey
- Zachary Long
- Carson Wade

Mr. Mathis and Dr. King extend their sincere thanks to the Decatur County Board of Education for its continued confidence in the Virtual Academy—an innovative program that truly allows us to meet the needs of every student, every day.

We are proud of each of you and look forward to what the future holds!

I hope you had a great week. Students have done a fantastic job. We have had to send emails about not completing work, but as we all get comfortable with the expectations, that should change. Here are a few essential reminders/ items of interest...

1. All computers are in. If you haven't received the one setup for you, please come by Monday from 7:30-4 to get it. If you have one on loan from us, please bring it back when you come.

2. We will send progress reports out this Friday. We will email both the parent and the student.

3. Please remember our check-ins. This past week was the first one. Please do a check-in through the Google Meet link. This provides us with a specific login for records. I know some of you work, and if we need to schedule a later time, please send me an email.

2025-2026 Mandatory Online Live Session Times:

Tuesdays – 2nd - 8th grade – 8:00-4:00 – Students are required to check in through the Google Meet link that will be shared in the email that day.

Thursdays – 9th-12th grade – 8:00-4:00 – Students are required to check in through the Google Meet link that will be shared in the email that day.

4. Grades 2-8 - We need to do our 1st AIMS Web benchmark for our 2nd -8th grade students. We need to cancel the 26th. Mr. Mathis and I will both be off campus due to training. If you have already signed up for that date, please check the calendar for another day. You can click on HERE to sign up for a date and time. It will take up to two hours. It depends on the student. You can drop your child off and come back later. If they are here during lunch time, we will feed them from the school cafeteria.

5. I am trying to keep our website updated. Please check it for updates and items about the virtual school. You can download the DCSS app and have it on your phone. It is available on Android and iOS. Hopefully, in the next week, you will be able to talk to us through it.

Thank you for enrolling your child in the Decatur County Virtual Academy. We are gearing up for a wonderful year. We will hold our orientation meeting differently this year. We will still have one for those who want to come on August 5th at 6:00 at the DCVA building. However, you can click the calendar link below to schedule a time. If you plan to attend the 6:00 meeting, please send an email to either me or Mr. Mathis stating your attendance. If you sign up for a time on Calendly, I will know already. If you have already selected a time, you do not have to do it again.

We are trying to finish up the end-of-semester tests by Tuesday afternoon. If you have not tested, please let Mr. Mathis or Dr. King know as soon as possible.  All computers, textbooks, and chargers must be dropped off at the alternative building by Wednesday at 2:30.  Report cards will be emailed to parents, or you can come by the alternative school on Friday between 8 and 11:30.
