Don Funderburk

Decatur County Schools would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Don Funderburk on his upcoming retirement.

Mr. Funderburk will conclude his service as Transportation Director for Decatur County Schools on December 31, 2025, marking 19 years and 4 months in that role (September 2006–December 31, 2025). Prior to becoming Transportation Director, he faithfully served as a mechanic from October 1994 through August 2006, totaling 12 years in that position.

In all, Mr. Funderburk has dedicated an incredible 31 years and 1 month of service to the Decatur County Board of Education. His leadership, dependability, and commitment to student transportation have left a lasting impact on our schools and community.

Director of Schools Melinda Thompson shared:

“Mr. Don’s dedication and steady leadership have been instrumental in keeping our students safe and our transportation department running smoothly. His years of service reflect a deep commitment to Decatur County Schools, and we are truly grateful for all he has given to this district.”

Safety Director Hugh Smith added:

“Don has always placed safety at the forefront of everything he does. His commitment to the safety of our students and drivers has been unwavering, and his attention to detail and care for others set a high standard within our transportation department.”

We would also like to recognize that Mrs. Sue Funderburk, Mr. Don’s wife, continues to serve within our school system, making the Funderburk family a valued part of the Decatur County Schools community.

Congratulations to Mr. Funderburk on a remarkable career and a well-earned retirement. We wish him the very best in this next chapter.
