Friday, May 19th, was a wonderful day for Parsons Elementary students.  Every quarter, Decatur County schools hold celebration days to reward students for good grades, good behavior, and good attendance.  This is part of the states RTI2-B plan to increase attendance and good behavior in schools across TN.  Parsons Elementary held their day, known as PAWS (Practice responsibility, Act respectful, Work hard, Stay safe) on Friday with a petting zoo for the students.  The petting zoo is a unique experience for many Decatur County students in which they get a chance to see, feed, pet, and play with animals they may not otherwise encounter.  This year's petting zoo included various animals, such as llamas, giant tortoises, goats, and more.  PES students loved getting to interact with these animals and get an up-close view of the very things they read about in stories and learn about in Science.  "We love getting the chance to reward our students for being awesome and if we get a chance to introduce them to something new, even better," said Dr. Scott King, PES Principal.  The PES students enjoyed the time they spent with the animals and all of the other fun activities that the PTO planned for these students.  The students spend the entire day playing and celebrating thanks to the Parent Teacher Organization that works with school administration to make these events possible.  A big thank you to the PES PTO, school administration and staff, parents, and the community for making good things happen for our students!
