BT

Ms. Brittany Tubbs was recently honored as the Decatur County District Teacher of the Month for April after being selected as the Decaturville Elementary Teacher of the Month for March.  In a conversation with Brittany,  we asked her about her history, philosophy of teaching, and what she enjoys the most about her profession:

“I attended and graduated from UTM Parsons Center. I received a degree in elementary education and added on early childhood education so I am certified to teach Pre-K through 6th grade. I began teaching at DES in 2013. My first two years I was in a reading interventionist position. I then spent one year in third grade teaching Science and Social Studies, spent two years teaching first grade, and am currently in my 5th year of teaching second grade.  My favorite part is getting to be a part of so many kids’ lives! We always say in my classroom we are a family. I get to watch them grow and learn so much in one year and I love when they stop in to say hi after they’ve moved on!  I think the hardest part of teaching is the worry that comes with it. You worry about your students even when not at school…about their safety and their emotional and physical needs, as well as worrying if you’ve done the best you can to prepare them academically so that they will feel successful,” said Ms. Brittany.

When asked why she chose education and why she continues in the profession she said, “I teach because it’s what God has called me to do! I want to have an impact on students’ lives and I hope that they can always look back and remember that their teacher loved them and believed in them!”

We are so proud of Ms. Brittany and glad that she returned home to continue educating the children of Decatur County and for being so dedicated to her students.  Thank you to American Fidelity for presenting Brittany with a gift bag, certificate, and $50 gift card.
